ABOUT US
Failing Chicken Math in the PNW
We are a small scale local hatchery that loves all poultry. We have some of everything from naughty dinosaur emus, pesky peafowl that will roost on your skylights, fancy ballerina geese, bowling pin shaped runner ducks, goth chickens, croaking quails, to glorious drumming turkeys and everything in between. We try to specialize in specific pure bred birds, but also have a lot of side projects for fun feathers, egg colors and personalities. (Next project is working on frizzled gigantes and crested calls).
We are named after our sweet boy Peanut Butter Cup, or Sweet Pea for short.
He absolutely hates the birds, but they love him.
MEET SOME OF THE TEAM
MEATBIRD
This is Meatbird, he is a cornish cross and was supposed to be food until he kept breaking into the house to follow meatball (the dog) around. He just made himself at home and is now part of the family. He is on a strict diets and dog chasing regimen to stay healthy!
Avocado
This is baby girl Avocado, she is our beauty queen, copy-cat little emu. She is incredibly curious and sweet and love nothing more than stealing food from the quails and practicing life as a duck-acado living with her favorite waterfowl.
The Peas
Our sweet peafowl, Our hens are Emerald, Jade, Peridot, and Opal and our boys are Oliver and Sapphire.
Oliver and Emerald have the most personality. Oliver always putting on a show, and Emerald getting in front of him making sure you don't steal her man!
Betty
Betty-Spaghetti, my favorite girl! This bourbon red will come in through the dog door to lay her egg on the couch where she knows you will see her and then demands bugs in payment. So sassy and loving!
Zorro
Sweet boy Zorro, our Spanish Black Tom always doing his best to protect his ladies, and all the chickens in his flock. He is the most dashing boy, and loves to show off to the mail man!
Big Meanie
and the bully queens
You can tell this elderly gentlemen is far from that, he is a rake! A ferocious fighting rogue who proudly wears his battle torn tail! His only goals in life are to steal all the women and eat all the treats (and poop on moms car).
His ladies are just as feisty as he is, bowling down all those who come between them and snacks!
Dust Bunny
This little man did not want anything to do with his photo shoot. He prefers rolling in the cobwebs and dirt under the coop. He will occasionally tolerate you for treats, but they better be the plumpest, juiciest, most expensive blueberries available.
Fine, Get Eaten
Another naughty (but incredibly handsome) little (and I do mean little, he is a whopping 2 pounds soaking wet!) man. He regularly escapes his coop, and refuses to go to bed in safety. Somehow he has avoided catastrophe and survives another day even living free in the forest.
Royal
Incredibly majestic, glorious and sweet rooster. The follows his ladies around to make sure they get plenty of snacks (if you haven't noticed a theme, this guys are highly food motivated). He snatched treats from the big pile to share with his girls, and is actually a lovely little gentleman.
